Hurricane Sandy Port Update

Post Sandy Update: 5

Further to our update of yesterday, we have following to report:

Channels: US Coast Guard issued the following advisory notice today:

“The Port of New York is open to all commercial vessel transits with the exception of the Arthur Kill south of the Goethals Bridge, Bay Ridge and Red Hook Channels.  Vessel entry to the Port of New York and anchorage use is limited to vessels with an approved facility berth or orders to bunker or lighter at anchor.”

Berths: Port Authority has completed surveys of all berths at Port Authority facilities in Port Jersey, Port Newark and Elizabeth.  All berths at these facilities are free of obstruction.  Surveys are underway at Red Hook Container Terminal and New York Container.

Terminals:  Clean up of Sandy damage is substantially completed at all terminals. Terminals are still awaiting resumption of power. As power is restored, the terminals  need approximately 12-18 hours to test equipment and systems.  If no damage found,  the terminals will be ready to work vessels and ingate/outgate cargo.

Customs and Border Protection (CBP): CBP’s mobile equipment is ready for operation. Radiation inspection portals will tested as power is restored.  Three of the four Customs Exam Stations (CES) are in operation and CBP started clearing cargo through them yesterday. GCT CES will open as soon as power is restored.

Rail:  NS and CSX are moving trains into and out of ExpressRail Elizabeth Facility.
