Yesterday the US Department of Commerce published the hearing schedule for the investigation of Steel imports. The investigation is very troubling to most in the steel industry since they have cast a very wide net. Based on the published information it seems hot-rolled or cold-rolled sheet and plate will be covered and even products such as pipe and tube. We are even hearing that wire rod will be included and could go as far as nails. This is a nightmare for all importers of steel and you can read the Federal Register notice for yourself. The comment period is open until May 31, 2017.
